| . | . | Born in Japan and raised from the age of three to fourteen in the United States, Yu's bicultural background has enabled her to bridge her talents internationally. Yu returned to Japan to pursue a career in entertainment at the age of fourteen and has been highly successful in her endeavors. Her debut with Toshiba EMI was marked with a number one single, introduced into a commercial campaign theme song for Coca-Cola in Japan. Her visibility and popularity has been consistent from her debut in 1982. She has evolved to become the versatile performer as an actress in movies, stage and television, as well as a recording artist. Despite her hectic day to day schedule, she has graduated with a bachelor degree in Japanese Culture from Sophia University in Tokyo. Yu has traveled worldwide acting as an ambassador and representative for Japan. She was specially chosen to represent the Japanese Entertainment Community as and Artist Ambassador for the Earth Summit held in Brazil in 1992. She has since become active in addressing the need to educate the public on the many issues concerning global ecology, hosting a weekly radio program focusing on this theme. Her most recent achievement has been on stage. She has just completed three seasons of performance as Cosette in the Japanese adaptation of "Les Miserables", which received overwhelming reviews from theatre critics.
